Two babies born safely – thanks to emergencySMS

The emergencySMS service has now handled over 300 real emergency calls covering the whole range of emergency situations; criminals have been arrested, lives have been saved and two babies have been safely born with the help of this service.

Here’s what one deaf user emailed us after using the service:

5593 mobile phones are currently registered to use the service and this is increasing by around 50 per week. As RNID continue to promote the service, and receive more assistance from the Emergency Services, more and more people are realising its benefits and want to register so they can contact the 999 services by SMS text if they are in an emergency situation.

Over 3600 people have registered with the emergencySMS trial.

T-Mobile has joined the emergencySMS trial

T-Mobile customers can now join the emergencySMS trial. The T-Mobile network is also used by a number of other mobile providers; customers who have tried to join the trial before and received a message saying that sending texts to 999 is not allowed should try to register again.

T-Mobile will be joining the emergencySMS trial on 29 September. If you, or your service provider, uses the T-Mobile network please come back and register on or after the 29 September. Please contact your service provider if you are unsure whether this applies to your service.
